Girl Talk

Can I have an honest little chat with you? Today I received a hurtful comment on my fashion post. Although I don’t agree with most of what the comment stated, I do agree that my last fashion post was not my best. Note: This post has been removed as I really don’t have positive feelings about it anymore. I wasn’t crazy about the outfit when I posted it, but I didn’t post on Friday last week, and I didn’t want to go two weeks without a fashion post. When I started Fresh Fashion Friday, it was a challenge to myself. I wanted to see how creative I could get with the clothing already in my closet. It was a challenge about having fresh eyes, saving money, and bringing a little excitement to getting dressed in the morning. Lately, the challenge has felt more like a chore. For almost a month the weather has alternated between rainy, muddy, and freezing – Not exactly inspiring or conducive to good picture taking. Add to this the fact that it is almost dark by the time I get home from work every day, and you can see why fashion has not been the first thing on my mind.
Based on all of this, I’ve decided that Fresh Fashion Friday is not necessarily going to be a recurring feature on this blog. If I happen to wear an outfit I really like on a day that is wonderful for taking pictures, then I will try to post about it, but I’m not going to rack my brain for a cute outfit when I really just want to wear sweats, and I’m not going to take pictures when the weather and the light are stacked against them turning out well – I’m just not that good at Photoshop!

If I do post about fashion again, I just want to let you know that I’m not claiming to have any professional style knowledge. I wear clothes I like that make me feel comfortable. During the school year I’m likely to post mainly work outfits, which means that the school dress code, not the Paris runway, dictates things such as the length of my skirts. I certainly never meant to suggest that I know anymore about fashion than any other plain Jane. My fashion posts were merely meant as another way for me to express my creativity (as lacking as it can be!) and hopefully encourage you to take a more creative look at your closet as well, before running to the mall.

I’m sorry I had to write this post, but I didn’t want to remove a comment and my post from Friday without any explanation. Since starting Little Red Roost nearly a year ago, I’ve found the blog world to be incredibly encouraging, inspiring, and therapeutic. I have loved every second of the experience until today. One comment is certainly not going to keep me from blogging in the future, but it has made me a little wary. I started this blog for fun, as a way to encourage myself to write and create regularly. I sincerely hope that it never stops being fun! Thanks so much to all of you who read my ramblings and encourage me. I still find it amazing that people would take the time to see what I’m up to and I really do love reading you comments!

Whew! Now that I got that off my chest, I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Some folks are so miserable that the only way they can make themselves feel better is to irritate others. It's your blog and you should put whatever the heck you want to on it and if someone doesn't like, well then they don't have to read it. I admire all of the blogger ladies that put their hearts and souls out there to offer inspiration to others. Don't let someone's mean spirit dampen yours. I look forward to future creative inspiration from you and other bloggers out there.

When you put yourself out to the public, you almost guarantee yourself some disagreements. I was the one who posted that "hurtful" comment, and I'm sorry that it hurt you. It was only meant to help you make your blog better.
And just because I state my opinion doesn't mean I'm an imp or mean-spirited. I said I loved the rest of your blog, which I do, and I tried to make my comment as gentle as possible. But sometimes you just have those days when you just have to say something, you know?
Sorry if I upset you.

Oh Hattie,
There are just those people who thrive on trying to make other people unhappy. You need to ignore them and do what pleases you. As long as you aren't hurting anyone who cares. It is ironic though that those mean people always post annonymous isn't it? Which just goes to show they are pretty pathetic to begin with.
You keep your head high and post about whatever you want. Remember it is your blog and if someone doesn't like a post then do what they were raised with- if you don't have anything nice to say - then say nothing at all.

Hattie, I enjoy every part of your blog! And I agree with the others, if ever there is something I don't like about a bloggers idea, etc. know what I do? I don't say anything:) Pretty easy to do. I have LOVED every aspect of blogging, but please don't let one "anonymous" post discourage you:)

We love your blog!

Hattie,
Sorry for your hurt feelings. I agree mostly with what everyone else has said and personally do not make negative comments to others' blogs. I would have to be pretty fired up to do that and I can't imagine a fashion post would cause that. I also have to acknowledge that I haven't read the comment in question. Having said that, I would like to say that trying to express something via posting is not always easy to do in getting across tone, and exact meaning. I have had to erase some of this comment several times, because I don't want anything to be misconstrued. So in the spirit of that, hopefully you will forgive the person as it looks like they were trying to make amends regarding their comment. I love your blog and check it daily because I love your creativity and it's just fun to see what you're up to. Keep on blogging!

Seems to be a recurring theme this weekend. One of the other blogs that I follow (Better After) posted about googling her name and coming acrossed a blog reposting some of the projects featured on her blog and making fun of them. I don't know why people have to be so cruel! We are all here doing our best to enjoy our stay in blogdom, and we don't need anyone to bring us down! Keep your chin up!!!

Hattie,

Just wanted to let you know that I enjoy your blog too. I am mostly a silent reader, but I do read regularly. It's so hard to not let certain words sting, but I pray that you will continue to write and post! :)
