Taking it in

It’s a DIY Day celebration because I made clothes. Kind of. After finding a cute (but huge) shirt at Goodwill, I decided it was time to take my sewing skills to the next level and try a little clothing refashion. That’s how this mu-mu like blouse…
... became this snappy little tank top.
It was a super easy process.

First, I cut off the sleeves, leaving about a half an inch all the way around. I rolled over the raw edge and sewed it to the underside. If your shirt is made of a fabric that doesn’t fray, you can cut the sleeves off right at the seam and skip the sewing step.
Next, I turned the shirt inside out, took one of my favorite tank tops, and laid it on top of the shirt. I used this as a guide for new side seams. I just drew a line about ½ an inch out from the edge of the tank top, pinned, and sewed. I tried the shirt on to check for fit, and then trimmed the excess fabric.
It only took about ten minutes to take this shirt from ehh to ahh.

While it’s still chilly outside, I’ll pair it with a baby blue sweater.
But as soon as it’s warm, I can’t wait to feel the sun on my shoulders.
So, next time you spot a thrifty top in the wrong size, try your hand at a little refashion fun.
